Does the Democrat Party Really Hate America?

Talk radio has helped inform listeners about politics and current events for decades. Rush Limbaugh is the greatest talk radio host of all-time, but there are other radio legends. Among them is Mark Levin. His new book, The Democrat Party Hates America, provides a succinct review of many talking points from his radio show.

Who is Mark Levin?

Levin is a political analyst at heart. He began his career as a lawyer and worked in the Reagan administration. His radio program and writing career center on exploring ways to restore America’s greatness.

He has written seven other books, including Unfreedom of the Press and The Liberty Amendments: Restoring the American Republic. He also regularly appears on TV programs and speaks at conservative events.

In The Democrat Party Hates America, Levin turns his high-powered intellect to exposing truths behind progressives and the Democratic Party.

The Main Points

The crux of Levin’s book is demonstrating all the ways the Democratic Party hurts the United States of America. Why would party leaders make unscrupulous decisions that damage our nation? According to Levin, their “why” is easy: They want power, and they will do anything to gain it. They push ESG, DEI, eliminating the electoral college, adding four new Democratic Senate seats, and packing the Supreme Court with progressive judges. At the heart of the Democratic Party is an insidious drive towards Marxism, which is fundamentally against the nature of our country. He writes:

“Americanism and Marxism are utterly incompatible. Americanism emphasizes unalienable, God-given individual rights; the right to life and liberty; natural law; a civil society where there is equal justice under a just law and law and order to secure the safety and well-being of citizenry; religious freedom; limited government; representative government; private property rights; free speech and the competition of ideas; freedom of association; the right to bear arms; etc. Marxism rejects these fundamental principles and values…”

What Else?

Among Levin’s other points is the extreme bigotry harbored by many progressives and Democrat Party officials. He spends two chapters showing the history of racism and antisemitism pouring out of the Democrats. The Democrats were the party of slavery, Woodrow Wilson was a raging racist, and most Democrats were strongly opposed to vital Civil Rights legislation. They hide the fact that Lincoln was a Republican, and Eisenhower, also a Republican, furthered the civil rights of black Americans more than any other president in his era. Similarly, progressive elites have turned racist in recent years against white people in our country, especially capitalist who also happen to be white.

The Marxist ideology of the left labels white people as bad and capitalist as bad, but the facts don’t support their conclusion. Capitalism has created more security and freedom for more people than any other economic system. It literally removes bigotry from society, focusing on monetary gain and producing goods and services. The Democrats, he shows, are against Dr. King’s dream of a color-blind society that focuses on the content of a person’s character, and not the color of his or her skin.

Language is another primary focus of the book. Marxist and all totalitarian regimes seek to control and manipulate through changing the language. He writes, “this authorization practice now widely exists in the United States, as the English language, science, knowledge, experience, and specific words are being redefined, banned, preplaced, etc. to impose on the citizenry the beliefs, values, and thought processes of the American Marxists and the Democratic Party.” This is obvious in the push for more DEI, ESG, cancel culture. Democrats can’t even define what a woman is anymore. The media and academia are totally complicit because they make more money and gain more power by helping the Democratic Party gain one party rule.

Same As It Ever Was

Much of the book makes the same arguments he, and many others, have made in the past.

Levin declares that the Democrats are at war against the American people. The government elites have removed any barriers to entering the country in an effort to have more foreigners come to America and vote Democrat. The millions pouring over the boarders illegally have no education, no jobs, poor health, and some are very dangerous. The people coming illegally will deplete our nation’s resources by becoming permanent dependents of the state. The Democrats don’t care as long as those they allow to come illegally vote Democrat.

Levin takes a detailed look into the war on the nuclear family, attacks on the Constitution, and the weaponization of the judicial system to attack Donald Trump and other Republicans. Like Stalin, he writes, the Democrats would rather put their opponents in jail than risk losing to them at the ballot box.

So, Do Democrats Hate America?

The statement and Levin’s arguments are too broad. Everything he writes is true to a great extent, but there are many people who unwittingly pull the metaphorical lever for the Democrats who are not involved in a power play. They don’t know anything about ESG, they use the words “men” and “women” and they waive the American flag. For many, it’s about helping people who need help.

Nevertheless, there is a powerful current pulsing through the veins of Democratic Party operatives and leaders. It was on full display during the Covid pandemic. The book’s closing chapter quotes Justice Neil Gorsuch on the subject of the Covid lockdowns and the abuse of government power:

“The concentration of power in the hands of so few may be efficient and sometimes popular. But it does not tend toward a sound government. However wise one person or his advisors may be, that is not a substitute for the wisdom of the whole of the American people that can be tapped in the legislative process. Decisions made by a few often yield unintended consequences that may be avoided when more are consulted. Autocracies have always suffered these defects.’”

Levin concludes the book by asserting that he has no solution to our current problem other than beating the Democrats at the polls. He writes:

“The Democrat Party stands for the relentless pursuit of power and control. America was founded on the principle of individual and human liberty and the dispersion of political governmental power. The Roman Republic lasted 482 years. Our republic is 247 years old. If the Democrat Party succeeds, the American experiment will have failed.”

The book is informative, but it’s much of the same Levin has written in the past and talks about on his radio program. The biggest spur, however, is the tone. The tone tarnishes its power. Everything from the title to the conclusion comes off as angry – and I think Levin would say, “Yes, I’m angry at what these people are doing to our wonderful nation.” Point taken. Still, there is a place for bridge builders, baby steps, and winning popularity contest. Angry people don’t typically win elections, and we need thousands of wins – from school boards to town councils and state legislatures – in order to right the ship.

I’m not sure this book helps us get there.
