3 Fiction Books You Should Read

How do you know if a fiction book is good? How do you know if it’s conservative or progressive? It’s even harder to tell if the author is out to serve a “woke” agenda. The books on this list are not only entertaining, but they are also consistent with conservative values.

Here are three fiction books we read this summer. You can also watch our YouTube review or follow us on Instagram.

Anthem by Ayn Rand

Ayn Rand’s book, Anthem, forces readers to contemplate the value of individual freedom. It’s a short read at just over 100 pages, but the subject matter is relevant today. The book is a classic because the threats entertained in it arise every couple generations, making it a prescient warning for us all.

The setting of Rand’s novella is in a dystopian future. The collectivist have erased individualism. One man dares to escape it all.

The Last Green Valley by Mark Sullivan

During the World War II, the Martel family is forced into a dreadful decision: side with the Soviets or follow the Nazis. Because they are Germans living in Ukraine, they are forced to the Nazi “wolves” because they offer safety. They overcome tremendous trials as they are swept up in two warring enemies, ultimately realizing their dreams.

Sullivan’s book is relevant today as the Russian war in Ukraine rages – and it’s a reminder of how the complications of geo-political forces affect the lives of ordinary people. The heart of this book isn’t the war or politics – it’s the characters and their journey to freedom.

Consent by Ari Mendelson

Consent is Ari Mendelson’s debut novel – and the first in a three-part series. It’s set in the United States, and the circumstances are early similar to what is unfolding all around us.

A tech and social media magnate, Jerry Neville, is on the verge of unleashing weapons of mass manipulation – my term, not his. Worse, Neville’s most powerful client is the President of the United States. A college journalist begins poking around, and you can only guess what happens.
